Jess has specialized in working with trauma survivors and has provided care across a number of contexts in the last 12 years including crisis shelters, hospitals, universities, and private practices. She received her doctorate in Medical and Clinical Psychology from the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences in Bethesda, MD. While there, her research focused on emotion regulation in the contexts of suicide and addiction. Her clinical training includes four years of intensive training and practice in dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) at the Wake Kendall Group and trauma-focused work at the Washington DC VA Medical Center in the Trauma Services Program. Jess has also had comprehensive training in cognitive processing therapy (CPT), prolonged exposure (PE), cognitive behavior therapy (CBT), and humanistic, interpersonal, and psychodynamic theories. In addition to individual therapy, Jess loves facilitating therapy groups and providing trauma education to trauma survivors' loved ones and the wider community.
Jess believes that though therapy is not always easy, a strong relationship between therapist and client can make the process significantly better. She prioritizes creating a safe, supportive, and nonjudgmental environment necessary for examining trauma. Additionally, she strives to be genuine and authentic in sessions, incorporating humor and warmth throughout therapy. Jess integrates a variety of evidence-based approaches with a warm, collaborative relationship into a comprehensive treatment program customized to each individual she works with.
