Christiana Shao is a bi-cultural BIPOC clinical psychologist who has lived in various cultures. She is passionate about the impact of cultural background on client’s mental health. Therefore, she values a multicultural approach to therapy that acknowledges the influence of culture on the development and expression of mental illness. Christiana completed her doctoral education at the Chicago School of Professional Psychology, she previously earned master’s degrees in counseling, and has been licensed for over six years. She is a Certified Advanced Grief Counseling Specialist (CAGCS), and a Certified Group Psychotherapist (CGP).

Christiana is passionate about trauma-focused work. As a Navy Veteran, she has experience providing trauma-focused treatment for active-duty military members and Veterans. She also has experience working with nonmilitary survivors of trauma. She is trained in evidence-based treatments for anxiety, complex trauma, depression, grief, suicide, personality disorders, PTSD, and other disorders. She particularly enjoys working with adult survivors of trauma from diverse cultural and ethnic backgrounds and providing integrative Christian counseling for which she is trained.

Christiana strongly believes that a positive therapy relationship is critical and strives for such a relationship by creating a safe holding space for the client, while collaborating to undo the unwanted aloneness that often accompanies overwhelming emotions.  She also tailors’ treatment to client’s specific needs by employing a holistic and integrative approach to therapy.
