AYSHA DESILVA, PSYD
Licensed in DC and MD; able to see clients in VA
Aysha received training and completed her postdoctoral fellowship at The Trauma Resilience and Education Center in Washington DC. Her special interests include working with trauma survivors who have experienced attachment trauma, interpersonal/relationship trauma, intergenerational trauma, sexual assault, and grief and loss. Aysha has been trained in a variety of evidenced-based treatments for PTSD including Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT). Aysha has also co-facilitated trauma-informed support spaces for women of color and led informational workshops on PTSD.
Prior to working at TREC DC, Aysha met with young adults at university counseling centers who experienced a wide range of trauma-related concerns. Aysha developed a passion for working with young adults, and also observed a demand for trauma-informed services. This led her to pursue specialized training in trauma which she has thoroughly enjoyed.
Aysha values building strong therapeutic relationships with clients before diving into treatment. Her therapy space has been described as a warm, compassionate, and non-judgmental. Aysha strives to listen to clients' needs which help with treatment planning. Her hope is that clients understand that although healing takes time, it's certainly worth it.
